The Joan Woven Top sewing pattern is a modern, boxy shaped top with a V-neck and extended shoulder line. Designed to sit just above the high hip, it features a slightly dipped back hem and wide hem facings for a clean, structured finish.
Designed for woven fabrics like washed linen, charmeuse, crepe or viscose/rayon, the Joan has an easy silhouette that pairs well with tailored trousers, jeans or skirts. The extended shoulder and dipped hem add shape and interest while keeping the overall look simple and easy to wear.

Was a little short for me but I managed to lengthen it. However, I’m afraid it looked like a hospital scrub top! The v neck is a little low for my taste, but ok. Pattern easy to follow but I dont think I’ll make another.

I tried adapting this to make it out of a small amount of fabric I had left after making a dress, so I shorted it. The only downside it that the V is a little lower that I would have chosen, and i did not make it long enough to pull if down at the back to compensate for this. When I make it again I will raise the V to match the Rumi Woven top which is as low as I like to go

Hi Julie,
Thanks for taking the time to share your experience making the Joan Woven Top.
We always recomend making a toile when making any pattern adjustments, just to check you are happy with the fit ahead of cutting into your real fabric.
Great to hear you already have a plan for a 2nd attempt.
Thanks,
Style Arc

Love this pattern, different fabrics result in very different looks. Easy to wear, flattering, and a great alternative to T shirts.

Love this pattern. I made it in a deadstock viscose crepe, comfy to wear even with the temperatures at plus 30C.

Returning to dressmaking after a long gap and this was my first time using a Stylearc pattern, also new to using patterns in pdf format but I found the pattern easy to put together and everything fitted perfectly. The instructions were good and I was very happy with the way this top came together. I made it in a lightweight linen and the fit is perfect, a lovely top, so I will certainly be returning to make more patterns by Stylearc.

Joan pattern is a lovely quick pattern. I’ve made it twice, in seersucker and two way stretch jersey. I tweaked the vee it was a little low for my full bust and my bra was showing. I also lengthened the jersey fabric by 2 inches. I used up left over fabric so I had very little waste fabric

A lovely pattern.. I might tweak the next one by doing a size smaller with a small FBA but I’ll be wearing my first attempt this weekend.

This is a nice pattern but the sleeves stuck up a bit so I narrowed/tapered them, raised the front neckline, added 2.5 inches to the length and a front flounce which I stitched in at the shoulder seam and followed around the front neckline down the center seam. It’s looks really nice and flatters my figure.

A delightful pattern, I found the instructions for the ‘V” perfect. This is a must have top in the wardrobe, it looks great with either slim leg or wide leg pants.
A credit to the pattern makers

This is such a fun pattern to sew. I loved the clever way to make a perfect ‘v’ collar. Running a seam line down the front with an extension insures a perfect ‘v’–very clever. This top I made out of a light weight mechanical stretch only knit for a very cool top for everyday work outside, but my next project will be to make it in a silk for a dressy outfit paired with the Barry pants also in silk. I love the flexibility of the patterns to translate into various situations based on the material content.

Just love this pattern. Have made it in chambray fabric and looks awesome.
Perfect fit, cut out, sewn, now wearing with Ethel pants. Will be making more of this style.

Beautifully styled top- the pattern was easy and went together well. The top is semi-fitted but roomy. I made it in quilter’s cotton, so not very soft or giving, but it fits and sits well.
